Mallikarjuna Murugharajendra Swami of the Bekkinakal Mutt has called upon the Sanskrit teachers to upgrade their skills on a regular basis.

Inaugurating a district-level convention on Sanskrit language, organised by Samskruta Bharati and Tarunodaya Samskruta Seva Samsthe here on Sunday, he said owing to some wrong notions prevailing among a section of society that Sanskrit was a fossilised language and its learning had no relevance, the present generation youths had shown reluctance towards learning it. In reality, Sanskrit was a treasure-trove of knowledge on subjects related to medicine, astronomy, chemistry and mathematics. It was essential to dispel such wrong notions and apprise people on its novel aspects, he said.

He urged Sanskrit teachers to learn creative methods of teaching the language and thereby attract students towards it. The translation of Sanskrit texts into Kannada and other regional languages should be promoted, he said.
