September 27, 2017 12:23 am | Updated 12:23 am IST - Bengaluru

The Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC) on Tuesday criticised the decision of the Supreme Court’s collegium to transfer Justice Jayant M. Patel of the Karnataka High Court to Allahabad High Court.

Terming the collegium’s decision as “without any valid reason”, Y.R. Sadashiva Reddy, member of KSBC’s special committee and co-chairman of Bar Council of India, has stated that “such a decision would lead to erosion of public faith in the judiciary”. In the statement released here, Mr. Reddy said that an emergency meeting of the council has been convened on Wednesday to discuss the measures to be taken for empowering the judicial system in Karnataka. Meanwhile, a few members of the Advocates’ Association, Bengaluru, on Tuesday staged a demonstration outside the High Court’s gate criticising the decision to transfer Justice Patel when he had just 10 months service left as a judge of the High Court.
