Kalasa-Banduri Nala project: Minister says State’s interests will be protected

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T.B. Jayachandra has said the State government would take all steps to ensure that no injustice is meted out to the State in the Kalasa-Banduri Nala project.

Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of the foundation laying ceremony of the new court complex in Hubli on Saturday, the Law Minister said that in the wake of the hearing of the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal being held this month, he had already held meetings on the issue twice.

“I have also held discussions with the advocates representing the State before the tribunal. We are going to present strong arguments before the tribunal and have already taken precautionary measures to ensure that our interests are protected,” he said. Mr. Jayachandra said while the State government would follow the legal route by presenting its case before the tribunal, it would also make an appeal before the tribunal to give the go-ahead for the project as it was for drinking water needs.

Rs. 20 crore

To a query on the infrastructure of the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU), Mr. Jayachandra said adequate funds would be given for improving its infrastructure and the government had released Rs. 20 crore for a hostel.

He said he would be visiting the law university soon and take necessary steps after assessing the requirements.
