The bandh called by the Jewellers' Association of Mysore (Shroff Vartakara Sangha) against the Union government's proposal to levy Central excise on gold and gold jewellery evoked total response in the city.
The two-day bandh concluded on Tuesday. The next course of action will be based on the decision taken by the apex body of the association at the national level, according to Dinesh Babu, association member. All jewellery shops on Ashoka Road, the hub for bullion trade in the city, and showrooms of major brands on Devaraja Urs Road and other places in the city remained closed.
There are nearly 3,000 jewellers in the city and the bullion trade is reckoned to be around 25 kg per day, at a conservative estimate, according to Mr. Babu.

He said the bandh evoked total response. The bandh was part of the nationwide strike. Mr. Babu said jewellers may continue the strike if there was no rollback on the proposal.
