The members of the RKS flagging of the jeep jatha against amendment to Land Acquisition Act.

The two-day ‘Jeep Jatha’ to create awareness about the pitfalls in the ordinance amending the land reforms act organised by the Raitha Krishikarmikara Sanghatane (RKS) was flagged off in Kalaburagi on Wednesday by the State Secretary of the RKS H.V. Diwakar.

The RKS would also launch a campaign to drum up support of the farmers to the rally organised by the RKS in Bengaluru on April 9 against the decision of the Union government to re-promulgate the ordinance amending the Land Acquisition Act. The ‘jeep jatha’ would cover all the taluk headquarters and the villages in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Diwakar said that the amendment to the land reforms act 2013 was blatantly anti-farmer and the right of the farmers over their land is being taken away and forcible acquisition of the farmers land would become the order of the day. “The amendment to the land acquisition act would only benefit the rich and industrialists to get the fertile lands at throw away prices”.

He said that the after-effects of the amendment would have serious implications on the rural economy. The self-sufficiency achieved in food grain production would be in jeopardy and the country would once again be dependent on import of food grains and oilseeds to meet domestic requirement.
