JD(S) to hold introspection session on Monday

The Janata Dal (Secular) will hold a meeting of its legislators, defeated candidates and senior leaders here on Monday to introspect the party’s performance in the recently concluded elections to the Legislative Assembly.

The legislature party leader will be elected at the meeting and the strategy to be adopted in the Lok Sabha elections will be discussed.

H.D. Revanna, who was the floor leader of the party in the previous Assembly, has declared that his brother, H.D. Kumaraswamy, would be the Leader of the Opposition this time.

A senior leader told

The Hindu that Mr. Kumaraswamy would be elected unopposed at the meeting. The strategy for the election to the Periyapatna Assembly constituency, which was postponed owing to the death of the BJP candidate Sannamoge Gowda, too would be worked out. Mr. Kumaraswamy would leave for Periyapatna after the meeting. “He will camp in Periyapatna till the election is over,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kumaraswamy and N. Chaluvarayaswamy will submit their resignation from the membership of the Lok Sabha on May 21.

“They will submit their papers to the Lok Sabha Speaker in New Delhi,” the senior leader said. They have been elected from Ramanagaram and Nagamangala Assembly constituencies.

The JD(S) has 40 MLAs and each of them would observe the functioning of government departments and raise issues concerning the people inside and outside the House, he said.
