It was 71.42 per cent in Mandya

The Lok Sabha constituency registered 71.42 per cent polling in the elections conducted on Thursday, according to the final figures provided by the Election Commission here on Friday.

Mandya comprises eight segments, including Krishnaraja Nagar Assembly constituency that comes under the jurisdiction of Mysore district.

The total number of voters in the constituency is 16,68,685, of which 11,91,708 exercised their franchise.

The EC had established 2,019 polling booths, with 382 identified as hypersensitive and 243 sensitive, besides appointing 9,441 officials for election duties.

The highest turnout was recorded in Melkote, 78.33 per cent. This was followed by Krishnaraja Pet (75.4 per cent); Srirangapatna (74.48 per cent); Krishnaraja Nagar (72.88 per cent); Maddur (72.06 per cent); Malavalli (68.21 per cent); and Nagamangala (68.11 per cent). The lowest turnout was recorded in Mandya Assembly constituency: 64.05 per cent.

Security for EVMs

Meanwhile, multi-tier security arrangements have been made at the Government College for Boys off the Bangalore-Mysore highway here, where the electronic voting machines (EVMs) used in the elections have been kept.

Nearly 150 police personnel will be on duty around the clock, police officials said. The police have put up barricades at the counting centre and officials have taken steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the strongroom established at the college.
