IT officials raid medical college, Jalappa Hospital in Kolar

A team of Income Tax Department from Bengaluru conducted raids on Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, R.L. Jalappa Hospital and some other institutions run by Sri Devarj Urs Academy for Higher Education and Research (SDUAHER) at Tamaka on outskirts of Tamaka on Thursday.

Former MP and Union Minister R.L. Jalappa is the chairman of SDUAHER which runs several educational institutions. The raids were conducted following alleged tax evasion by these institutions.

The officials began the raid at around 9 a.m. in the morning and the process continued till late evening. The documents have been thoroughly checked, sources said.

Sources told

The Hindu that the IT officials confiscated about Rs. three crore cash from various premises of the institution during the operation.

Cheating of PF

The Academy Employees Union sources said the union has complained to the Provident Fund Commissioner about cheating by the management in payment of the provident fund.

The PF officials are likely to conduct enquiry about the complaint soon, sources said.

A school management run by the Academy was accused of debarring some students, who are the wards of its employees, for failing to pay the fees.
