ISB report to be submitted to apex court by August-end

Demarcation of border between Karnataka and A.P. has been pending since 2010

One of the rock marks identified and recorded during the recent joint survey carried out by Survey of India.

The report on demarcating the inter-State boundary (ISB) between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh passing through the Ballari Reserve Forest, is likely to be given to the Supreme Court on or before August 31.

This was stated by counsel for the Union government during a hearing of the writ petition in the Supreme Court on Monday by Justice Madan Lokur, Justice S. Abdul Naseer, and Justice Deepak Gupta.

The counsel informed the apex court that the joint field exercise was carried out and there were some issues raised by both the States and they have also made their submission.

Joint survey

Following directions of the apex court, a joint survey of the ISB was carried out recently by the officials of Survey of India along with the officials of departments concerned of both the States. During the joint field exercise, the officials had identified rock marks.

The demarcation of ISB has been pending since 2010 and a couple of exercises made earlier had not yielded any result.

The demarcation assumes significance following allegations against Obulapuram Mining Company, owned by former Bharatiya Janata Party Minister G. Janardhan Reddy, of destroying the tri-junction point at Tumti and Vittalapuram villages of Sandur taluk and encroaching upon the ore-rich zone belonging to the State and also plundering it.

The Supreme Court has listed the case for further hearing on September 10.
