About five to six other prisoners went to snatch the remote from him, and when he resisted, he was pushed around. In the process, James suffered injuries.

The jail staff immediately shifted James to another cell at night. On Monday morning, James said that he was in pain. He was sent to the District Government Hospital in Udupi for treatment, Mr. Shivakumar said. James was brought to jail in connection with a case of attempt to murder, which took place in 2012.
