Belgaum is all set for the International Kite Festival, which will be held on Savgaon road here from January 19 to 22.
The four-day event is being organised by the Parivartan Pariwar. As many as 34 kite-flyers from Lebanon, Indonesia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Thailand, France, Switzerland, Singapore, Italy, Hong Kong, China, Australia, Indonesia and Germany will participate in it. Announcing this here on Monday, founder-patron of the organisation Abhay Patil, MLA, said the festival had received an overwhelming response from professional kite-flyers from across the world.

“The maiden festival held in 2011 was a success, with more than three lakh visitors. Eighteen national and six international teams participated in it. The next edition in 2012 also received a good response, with more than 4 lakh visitors,” Mr. Patil said. He said that the Belgaum International Kite Festival was now recognised by the American Kite Flyers Academy. He added that one of the major objectives behind the event was to draw tourists to the city.
“This year, over five lakh visitors are expected from all over the district, in addition to those from Dharwad, and Kolhapur and Sangli in Maharashtra, and from Goa. Special buses to the venue of the festival had been arranged from the bus station and different parts of the city for the convenience of visitors,” he said.
