The State government has dismissed B.V. Jayanth, an instructor at the Government L.V. Polytechnic College in Hassan, who was suspended in October 2012 on the charge of offering bribe of Rs. 1 lakh to the Governor in connection with his transfer.
The Department of Technical Education issued the dismissal orders on February 25. In July 2011, the department had transferred Mr. Jayanth from the DACG Polytechnic College in Chikmagalur to a college in Bidar.
Following this, he sent a cheque of Rs. 1 lakh to the Governor and appealed to him to hand it over to the then Under Secretary of the department, who issued transfer orders, and ensure that he was transferred back to Chikmagalur.

The Governor’s office had sought disciplinary action against the instructor for his ‘misconduct’.
However, Mr. Jayanth defended his action and said that he was transferred to Bidar for raising his voice against the misappropriation of funds at the college in Chikmagalur. He said he chose to send the cheque only after his 13 letters to the authorities concerned, about the wrongdoings in the department, did not receive response.
The retired judge, appointed by the department as the inquiry officer, issued orders convicting him of charges of misconduct as per the Karnataka Civil Services Rules.

‘I am being targeted’ Mr. Jayanth told The Hindu that he would continue the legal battle.
He claimed that he was being targeted for pointing out misappropriations in the department.
