Officials heaved a sigh of relief after the II pre-university mathematics exam went off without a hitch on Tuesday. Students, too, left examination halls wearing smiles as they said the paper turned out to be easier than what they had expected.
Some students, however, said the paper was lengthy. In 2016, students had alleged that the mathematics paper was very “tough” and the lecturers had taken a decision to award “grace marks” of up to 21.
After Monday’s incident where the accountancy paper was circulated on social media about an hour after the exam started, the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) had reiterated that mobile phones were banned for both students and staff members. Following this, four mobile phones were seized from exam centres across the State.

Some students who came out of the Government Girls PU College, Malleswaram, after taking the exam were distraught, and claimed that they did not get a full three hours to write their paper. A parent of one of the students said, “My daughter said they were given the question paper only at 10.45 a.m. as the invigilator was unable to open the question paper bundle.”
