It appears that obstacles for the laying of the synthetic track at the R.N. Shetty district stadium here have not been overcome. If everything went on as planned, the track would have been laid by now but the work had stopped halfway, since 25 days.

While the officials in the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports here express ignorance as works are monitored by the Directorate of Youth Empowerment and Sports in Bengaluru, non-clearance of bills is said to be one of the main reasons.

Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports B. Srinivas said that emulsions and drumming remained to be done and the track would be laid after drumming. But if it rains, the work would be further delayed.

The work would have been completed if it was not stopped after asphaltation. The issue had been brought to the higher officials in the department. A team from Bengaluru would visit here on Sunday and the work was expected to resume thereafter, he said.

It has been a long-pending demand of athletes here to lay the synthetic track at the stadium. The government released Rs 3.69 crore to lay a 400-metre synthetic track here in 2012. But delay in completion of works is adding to the woes of athletics here.
