Heavy rain lashes Mysore, surrounding areas

Incessant rain lashed the city and surrounding regions on Thursday owing to the low pressure area over south interior Karnataka and adjoining places.

Slight drizzle in the early morning later gave way to a torrential downpour, throwing normal life out of gear. Low-lying areas, including commercial areas around K.R. Circle, Clock Tower and Chamaraja Circle, D. Devaraja Urs Road and Dhanavantri Road, were flooded.

Parts of the city have been dug up to take up civil works near D. Devararaj Urs Road, forcing the public to walk on the main road. Drains and manholes were clogged at many places.

Two buffaloes, which were grazing near Marigudi temple, were electrocuted. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department said the maximum temperature in the last 24 hours was 28.9 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees Celsius below normal. The minimum temperature was 21.7, one degree above normal.

As per the weather report, there was heavy rainfall of 11 mm at M.M. Hills in Chamarajanagar.

The forecast for the next 48 to 72 hours is moderate to heavy rain in most places in south interior Karnataka.
