Incessant rainfall that lashed Bhagamandala and other areas of Kodagu district in the last 24 hours has resulted in significant increase in the inflow into the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) in the district on Wednesday.
At 6 a.m. on Wednesday, the water level stood at 95.80 ft. as against the maximum of 124.80 ft. The level was 93.52 ft. on Tuesday morning. The inflow rate also rose from 16,540 cusecs to 27,680 cusecs during the same period. The water level was 92.47 ft. on August 30 in 2016.
Cauvery and its rivulets in Kodagu are in spate owing to heavy downpour. Consequently, the storage level also shot up by 1.463 tmcft in the last 24 hours, said officials of the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (CNNL).

The gross storage was 19.695 tmcft, while the live storage was 11.316 tmcft on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, according to the CNNL officials, the quantum of water being discharged from the reservoir was increased to 10,649 cusecs on Wednesday. The outflow was at the rate of 8,939 cusecs on Tuesday. “Over 85% of the outflow was to Tamil Nadu to comply with the final award of the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal,” officials said.
Meanwhile, heavy to very heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Kodagu. The district received 31.35 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, sources at the Agriculture Department, Kodagu, told

While Madikeri taluk received 42.9 mm of rainfall, Virajapet and Somawarapet taluks got 24.17 mm and 26.97 mm respectively between 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday and 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Kasaba near Madikeri, Napoklu, Sampaje, Bhagamandala, Kasaba near Virajapet, Hudikeri, Srimangala, Ponnampet, Ammathi, Balele, Kasaba near Somawarapet, Shanthalli, Kodlipet, Kushalanagar, Suntikoppa, and surrounding areas experienced torrential rains and this would enhance the inflow rate into KRS, the official said.
