‘He spoke well, but we don’t know Hindi’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke non-stop for 50 minutes and mesmerised the mammoth crowd with his oratory skills here on Sunday.

The crowd responded well every time he sought an answer from them. But there was a glitch. Those who responded to his questions were from the urban areas, but those from the villages hardly understood anything because they did not know Hindi. “He spoke well, but we don’t understand Hindi,” Mallappa from Halaval village told The Hindu.

Keshavachar from Nagenahalli in Harapanahalli taluk had a similar opinion. “We could understand a little bit about what he wanted to do for the country,” he said.

In fact while dispersing, people were conversing among themselves about how it could have been better if somebody had translated Mr. Modi’s speech into Kannada.
