Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said the State government had decided to submit a Rs 2,000 crore plan to the Supreme Court for the rehabilitation of the areas affected due to indiscriminate mining in Bellary, Chitradurga and Tumkur districts and provide basic amenities and rejuvenate the mining areas.
Briefing presspersons about the decisions taken in the Cabinet meeting held in Kalaburagi city, Mr Siddaramaiah said that the Cabinet discussed the issue threadbare and gave its approval. It has also been decided to entrust the rejuvenation works to the Karnataka Mining Restoration Corporation. It will be a comprehensive rehabilitation package involving major departments inclding the Transport and communication, Environment and Forest, Drinking Water, Health, Education and Skill Development and Agriculture departments.
Mr Siddaramaiah said that the state government had submitted a proposal for auctioning mining rights of the C category Mines to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court-appointed CEC which visited Bangalore recent had suggested a few changes in the proposal submitted by the government. The cabinet took into consideration the changes suggested by the CEC and decided to prepare a fresh proposal and submit it through CEC to the Supreme Court for the auctioning of the C category mines.

He said if the Supreme Court give its approval to the fresh proposal of the state government submitted through CEC, the state government would take up auctioning of 6 mining licenses during the period of December 2014 and January 2015 and the remaining 9 minnes would be auctioned during March, April and May 2015.
Mr Siddramaiah said that the cabinet also gave its approval for providing 61.06 Acre of land at Tadasinakoppa village in Dharwad district for the establishment of Indian institute of Information Technology. The land would be handed over to the Union Human Resource Development Ministry at a concessional rate of 50 per cent of the guidance value of the said land. The Cabinet also decided to release Rs 69.78 crore for meeting the increase in remuneration to the elected representatives of the Panchayat Raj institutions.
