Home Minister K.J. George has reiterated the government’s offer inviting naxalites to the table to discuss their problems, and to find a solution within the framework of the law. He warned that the government would not tolerate naxals or others taking law into their own hands and disturbing peace in the State.
Addressing a press conference in Gulbarga city on Tuesday, Mr. George said that despite the open offer made by the government,, no naxal or organisation has responded. However, a few organisations and individuals have approached the government on behalf of the naxals.
He said the government has taken the Belthangady incident very seriously. Maoists allegedly set on fire a van belonging to a former Kuthlur gram panchayat member, Ramchandra Bhat (42), on Saturday. Mr. Bhat, works for the NGO, Wildlife Conservation Society. Banners put up after the attack alleged that he was an agent who was “forcibly removing tribals for profit”.

To a question, the Minister said the State was maintaining a close vigil on the activities of terrorists, despite the fact that there was no intelligence reports on them.
To another question, Mr. George said the government was fully geared up to provide adequate security to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his visit to Bangalore.

Replying to a question, Mr. George said the government has, in principle, agreed to establish the Police Commissionerate in Gulbarga city. This year, allocations have been made in the budget for establishing a commissionerate in Belgaum city also. Mr. George said Rs. 1,500 crore would be raised as loan from HUDCO for modernising the police force and for the construction of 11,000 quarters for the police and 50 buildings for housing police stations this fiscal.
He said a police public school has been sanctioned, on the lines of Kendriya Vidyalaya with CBSE syllabus, for Gulbarga city, and it would begin functioning from the next academic year.
The government has already established a police public school in Bangalore, and work for establishing a similar school in Mysore and Dharwad was on. The government has, in principle, decided to establish a police public school in all the headquarters of the police range offices.
Referring to the increasing incidents of cybercrime, Mr. George said a separate division has been established in the police for dealing with cybercrime cases in the State. And already a separate police station to deal with cybercrime has been established in Gulbarga, he said.
The Minister said the government had also decided to sanction 14 new police stations, of which two all-women police stations would be sanctioned in Bidar and Yadgir cities.
The government is also considering sanctioning a traffic police station in Yadgir city.
