Public Works Minister H.D. Mahadevappa has said that the State government has provided Rs. 1,000 crore to the Karnataka Road Development Corporation to increase the height of low-level bridges in the State in a phased manner.

Talking to presspersons here on Sunday, Dr. Mahadevappa said that the low-level bridges caused frequent disruption to the movement of traffic during the rainy season and the State government wanted to upgrade all such bridges by increasing their height in a phased manner. Currently, around 120 low-level bridges on important roads have been identified for the upgrade.

When asked about the development plans of State highways and the measure to widen them to accommodate the growing demand of vehicular movement, the Minister said that the government had already fixed a roadmap for the development of 20,000 km of State Highway in phases.
