K.S. Eshwarappa, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, has expressed displeasure that the Congress government in the State has failed to prevent trafficking and illegal slaughtering of cattle.
The Karnataka government should crack down on the abattoirs involved in illegal slaughtering of cattle on the model of the action initiated by the government in Uttar Pradesh. It is the government’s legal obligation to prevent cattle slaughter, he said at a press conference here on Monday.
Mr. Eshwarappa said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in Karnataka, it would ban cattle slaughter. He demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah release the report on socio-economic survey (caste census) conducted in 2015. The outcome of the survey report is believed to help the government design plans for the welfare of social groups that are deprived. It is unfortunate that the Congress is delaying the the result of the census, he said.

Replying to a query, he said Mr. Siddaramaiah’s own partymen including Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Home Minister G. Parameshwara are against releasing the data collected during the census.
