A six-year-old girl from Anekal, near Bangalore, captivated the audience at Athithi Dasara here on Thursday with her exceptional act — performing yoga in water.

Termed ‘Jala Yoga’, Tanushree, performed about 15 Asanas (postures) floating on water.

She was at ease during her performance in the swimming pool of a luxury hotel here.

Minister for Higher Education and Tourism R.V. Deshpande, Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader, MLA Vasu and other dignitaries watched her performance with admiration.

District officer of AYUSH, N. Nagesh, told The Hindu that the girl’s father taught her to perform yoga in water.

“The girl is trying to enter the Limca Book of Records by performing the yoga act. The 13-year-old has already completed the feat and entered the Limca Book of Records. Tanushree wants to accomplish it at six years,” Dr. Nagesh said.

Athithi Yoga, an initiative to spread the knowledge of yoga among domestic and international tourists, was launched here on Thursday. The Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) came up with the idea of teaching yoga to tourists on all 10 days of the celebrations, starting September 25.

The department spoke to the managements of about 50 to 60 hotels here for holding yoga sessions on their premises. It has roped in a sizeable number of yoga trainers for the programme.
