Getting a glimpse into Gangubai Hangal’s life

An exhibition of rare photographs of Gangubai Hangal, doyenne of Hindustani classical music, with eminent musicians and personalities was held at the Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University as part of her birth centenary celebrations here on Wednesday.

Sarod maestro Pandit Rajiv Taranath inaugurated the celebrations. Music scholar Sukanya Prabhakar and Bellary M. Raghavendra of Akashvani, Mysore, were the chief guests. Registrar Y.N. Sidde Gowda presided.

The late musician with Jnanpith Award recipient Da. Ra. Bendre, musician Puttaraja Gavai, shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan, flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, and actor Dr. Rajkumar, were some of the photographs on display.

A black and white photograph of the legendary musician dating back to 1931 and a photograph of her musical instruments at her home in Hubli were also on display.
