Gang steals ATM, abandons it later

The stolen Automatic Teller Machine and the vehicleused in the crime at Belur in Nagamangala ofMandya district on Sunday.

A group of persons stole an ATM from a kiosk at Belur in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district in the early hours of Sunday. Soon after that, surprisingly, they abandoned the machine and their sports utility vehicle at a short distance from the kiosk and escaped.

According to the Belur police, the gang targeted the ATM of State Bank of India at Belur Cross on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway 75.

At least three men were involved in the crime. They removed the machine from the platform and loaded it onto their vehicle. After travelling a short distance, they abandoned the vehicle and the ATM and fled from the place, a senior police officer said.

Second time

The same ATM machine was targeted on May 5, 2015. Some miscreants had damaged it using weapons to loot the cash.

This case is yet to be solved, according to the Belur police.

The Police Department had instructed the bank to post security guards at the kiosk.

Even after that incident, the bank had not taken steps to tighten security, a senior police officer told The Hindu.

Forensic experts collected fingerprints and other clues from the place.

The Belur police have registered a case. Investigation is on.
