Daily wage workers from the Forest Department launched an indefinite dharna outside the office of the Deputy Conservator of Forests here on Monday, putting forth a host of demands including payment of pending wages.

The protesters alleged that the officials were harassing daily wage workers who demanded pending wages. “Wages are not paid to the workers as per Minimum Wages Act. The workers are being treated as slaves by overexploiting them for the last two decades or more. Whoever questions the exploitation and injustice is mercilessly fired from the job,” R Manasaiah, a workers’ leader said.

They demanded that the department immediately pay the pending wages as per the Minimum Wages Act; special allowance for night duty, and uniform, torch and other equipment.
