Five held on charge of robbery

Five persons were arrested by the Tirthahalli police on the charge of robbery in Tirthahalli taluk on Wednesday.

The arrested were Mohammed Yasin, Mohammed Zaki and Musthaq Ahmed (all students of Sahyadri Arts and Commerce College), and Mohammed Sadiq and Amzad from Muttinakoppa. Riyaz, another accused, is stated to have escaped.

When Rajashekhar, who owns a liquor shop at Kattehakkalu, was carrying Rs. 10.08 lakh in cash by car to Koppa in the night, six youths, armed with lethal weapons, allegedly waylaid him and took away the money from him. Mr. Rajashekhar later narrated the incident to one of his employees, who alerted the police. The police immediately swung into action and managed to arrest five persons.
