Five dead, four injured in road accident

Five persons, including three women of Raichur district, were killed and four others sustained serious injuries in a road accident on NH-48 near Chikkanahalli in Sira taluk in the district on Sunday.

The police have identified four of the deceased as Anjanamma (22), Lakshmi (28), Mariamma (55), Poojari (35). One person is yet to be identified. The injured are Venkatesh (35), Ambarish (6), Sharif (18) and Haralaiah (55). All the injured and dead, other than Venkatesh who is from Andhra Pradesh, belong to Manvi taluk in Raichur.

All were construction labourers working in Bengaluru. They had all gone to their native place for a village deity’s festival 15 days back. They were returning to Bengaluru when their Trax was stopped to change the punctured tyre on the road side of NH-48.Two of them were changing the tyre and a few had got down from the vehicle and others were sleeping in the vehicle when a lorry rammed into the Trax around 3.30 a.m. killing three on the spot and two others died in the hospital.

The lorry driver is absconding.

A case has been registered in Kallambella police station.
