Farmer commits suicide

A farmer committed suicide at Hirekoppa –KS village in Ramdurg taluk, Belagavi district, on Friday.

Suresh Fakirappa Talwar (36), who owns just around 1.5 acres of land, had taken loans of ₹7.5 lakh for crops and his mother’s treatment. According to the complaint filed by Suresh’swife with the Kadkol police station, he committed suicide by consuming pesticide. When the family found out, they rushed him to the government hospital in Dharwad, where he succumbed within hours.

Among them, Talwar brothers owned five acres of land. They had dug six borewells as one after another failed, adding to their loans. Suresh alone had raised ₹4.5 lakh from a private bank, ₹1 lakh from corporation bank, and ₹2 lakh as hand loans from some zamindars, police said.
