Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa has resigned as president of the Bharatiya Janata Party State unit.
“I submitted my resignation as party president today. The party’s central leaders will announce a new president for the State unit in three days,” he told presspersons here on Thursday.
Mr. Eshwarappa said that there had been no pressure on him from anyone to quit the post. “It was a personal decision taken by me keeping in mind the interests of the party.”

It is necessary to face the coming Assembly elections under a new president, Mr. Eshwarappa said. The new president will get the cooperation of all party workers in preparing for the Assembly elections. The BJP has emerged as a strong political force in the State in the past five years. The voters in the State were impressed with the development schemes initiated by the BJP. The party organisation was also strengthened during this period. Under the new president, the party will surely succeed in retaining power in the State, he said.
