The Special Lokayukta Court here granted conditional anticipatory bail to Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa, his son K.E. Kanthesh and daughter-in-law Shalini over a disproportionate assets case on Monday.

The argument over the application for anticipatory bail filed by Mr. Eshwarappa was held on December 27. Principal District and Sessions Judge R.M. Shettar, who is also the Special Lokayukta judge, had reserved the order in this regard for December 31.

Granting anticipatory bail, the judge asked the applicants to execute a bond of Rs. 1 lakh and furnish surety for a similar amount.

The court has instructed Mr. Eshwarappa to appear before the investigating officer in 10 days.

Vinod B., the complainant, has said that he would approach the High Court seeking cancellation of the bail. It may be recalled that Mr. Vinod had filed a private complaint with the Special Lokayukta Court alleging that Mr. Eshwarappa had amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, in his name and in the name of his family members. The court had directed the Lokayukta police to probe into the complaint and furnish a report by February 4.
