Manipal University has taken one more step to give yet another boost to security on the campus.

While a ‘Quick reaction team, The Manipal Tigers’ is already operative from June 2015, two ‘Emergency Dispatch Riders’ on motorbikes have been introduced here on Tuesday.

A release by the university here on Tuesday said the need for a faster and less cost effective mode of conveyance was felt on the university campus for emergency situations.

The safety measure was flagged off by H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University, in the presence of Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar, and other officials.

One of the vehicles will be used in Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) and the other for the health sciences and Kasturba Hospital.

This new concept of Emergency Dispatch Riders was mooted by Prabhudev B. Mane, Chief Operating Officer-Campus Safety. The vehicles are easily recognisable with easy registration numbers (KA 20 EK 1100 and KA 20 EK 1110), and are equipped with first aid kit.

The dispatch riders are adequately trained commandos and supervisors. Emergency mobile numbers have been given to the motorcycle riders. For the one on the health sciences side it is 9945670912, and for the MIT it is 9632101004.
