The Forest Department has succeeded in driving a herd of six elephants back from Tumkur district. The six elephants, two tuskers and four female elephants, were driven back from Peramanahalli in Tumkur taluk on Tuesday night.
Assistant Conservator of Forests D. Devaraju told The Hindu that the elephants are in Nijagal forest area in Nelamangala taluk in Bangalore Rural district now. As many as nine elephants, two tuskers, three calves and four female elephants, entered Tumkur district from Advangi forest in Nelamangala taluk in on October 29.
They were first spotted near Olalakallu tank. Thereafter, they split into two groups on November 1. The herd of six moved from one tank to another in Tumkur, Gubbi, Sira and Chikkanayakanahalli taluks before being driven back.
