‘Will try to include it in AMRUT scheme’

Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises G.M. Siddeshwar has said that sincere efforts would be made to include Davangere in the list of smart cities of the Union government.

Speaking to The Hindu after attending a programme here on Sunday, the Minister said that a minimum of 1,000 acres is required for the smart city concept in Davangere. If the land is not available in a single stretch, it would not be included in the list of smart cities. “If Davangere is not included in list of smart cities , efforts would be made to include Davangere in the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme to help the growth of the city to expected levels,” he said.

He also said that efforts are on to bring Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) to Davangere by convincing the Union government of the facilities available in the district for establishing the same. A proposal in this regard has already been sent to the State government, he said.
