A special drive to clear encroachments around the Neerasagar Reservoir in Kalghatgi taluk was launched on Thursday.

A special drive to clear encroachments around the Neerasagar Reservoir in Kalghatgi taluk began on Thursday.

As per the survey conducted to detect encroachments around water bodies, it has been found that 23.5 acres of land along the boundary of Neerasagar Reservoir has been encroached upon.

On Thursday, the authorities began the encroachment clearance drive as per the direction of Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Deepa Cholan.

In the presence of officials led by Assistant Commissioner Mohammed Zuber, the workers began the drive by digging a trench along the boundary of the reservoir.

They officials also spoke to a few people who had built structures encroaching upon the water body and told them that they would be clearing those structures. Mr. Mohammed Zuber said that after clearing encroachments and digging trenches, a barbed wire fence would be erected along the boundary.

He was accompanied by Tahsildars of Dharwad and Kalghatgi Prakash Kudari and Ashok Shiggav, respectively, and officials from various government departments, including those from Revenue, Forest and Irrigation.
