Don’t sack midday meal staff: MLA

September 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - CHITRADURGA:

Instead of sacking women staff involved in preparing midday meal, the officers concerned should depute them to other works as they are completely dependent on their jobs for livelihood, MLA G.H. Tippareddy has said.

Speaking at the quarterly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) review meeting of Chitradurga taluk panchayat here on Monday, he said that some of the mid-day meal workers were recently sacked from service without citing any valid reason and they had approached him (MLA) seeking action against the orders.

“Before taking such action, the officers concerned should think about those dependent on these workers,” he said.

The State government has already declared Chitradurga taluk as drought-affected owing to scanty rainfall, so the officers concerned should take all precautionary measures to supply drinking water to people and make arrangements for tankers wherever necessary.

The officers should take up all pending drinking water projects and complete them as early as possible to ensure supply of water to people, he said.

The officers of BESCOM should take immediate steps to supply power to new borewells as some of the villages are suffering from acute shortage of drinking water. Under no circumstances should the officers delay supply of power to these borewells, first they should supply power and then look into other procedures, he added.
