Honne Gowda, State president of Indian Medical Association (IMA), has said that the Union government should not permit the online sale of medicines without consultation with doctors and pharmacists.
Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of a national-level conference of doctors, ‘Medicon-2015’, organised by IMA here on Saturday, he said that doctors prescribed the medicines based on the medical conditions of the patients.

“Purchasing medicines online without prescriptions could lead to further health complications. Thus, the IMA will not support the online sale of medicines as they are not like any other general product which could be purchased online,” Dr. Gowda said.
Later, in the programme, Minister of State for Medical Education, Sharan Prakash Patil, regretted that several incidents were taking place on the attack on the doctors.
He said that the government has formulated several laws for the protection of the doctors but added that doctors also should work with social concern to gain the confidence of people.

He said that compared to other States, Karnataka was doing far better in health sector, and said that the doctors also were serving providing good service.
IMA district unit president and noted pediatrician, L. H. Bidari and other functionaries of the association were present.
