Dhanushree V. Patil from Jindal Vidya Mandir, Tornagal, and Sampada N. Mudgal from KLE English Medium School, Hubballi, emerged winners in the senior and junior categories, respectively, in The Handwriting Wizards contest organised by The Hindu here on Thursday.

In the event held in association with Cello Pointec at JG College of Commerce, the two girls walked away with laurels in a keen contest.

Judges and calligraphy experts M.A. Momin and W.D. Dharwad took extra time to decide the winners as the contestants had written beautifully. Addressing the students, Mr. Momin elaborated on the need for having good handwriting skills and taking interest in calligraphy. Quoting from the verses, Mr. Momin explained how important it was to have education in a competitive world and urged them to be creative in their tasks.

Mr. Dharwad gave tips to the students on calligraphy and demonstrated a few techniques and regretted that parents and children were showing apathy towards handwriting these days. Singing a few lines in between, he exhorted the students to have a goal in life and work towards reaching it.

Lauding the initiative taken by The Hindu , he urged the students to focus on improving their writing skills in addition to gaining knowledge.
