Students of AME Dental College on Monday staged a demonstration at the campus off Bijanagera Road here, condemning the management’s “disinterest” in resolving the issues surrounding the admission of 22 students. The students said the management was playing with the lives of students and punishing them for no mistake of theirs.

“Twenty-two students, who had not appeared for CET or COMEDK, got admission in the college under the management quota between 2013-14 and 2015-16. They have paid a lot of money to secure their seats. Their admission was later declared illegal and the case is now in court. Other dental colleges in the State with similar issues have successfully resolved their problems through active intervention. However, AME Dental College is not taking any interest,” one of the agitating students said.

The students expressed anxiety at the fact that the court verdict is expected in July, while the final examinations are scheduled for June. “We don't know whether we will be allowed to appear for the examinations,” one student said.

S.B. Patil, secretary of the college management, said no injustice would be meted out to the students.

“Many colleges facing similar issues have moved the court. Different benches of the High Court have upheld the admissions in many cases. However, AME’s petition was rejected by the Kalaburagi bench. So, we have moved the Supreme Court. We are filing another petition in the apex court seeking an order allowing the students to write the final exams in June,” he said.
