With the beginning of the rainy season, cases of dengue and chikungunya are on the rise in Chitradurga district and the negligent and lethargic attitude of the people in rural areas of the district in maintaining cleanliness in and around their houses has further worsened the situation.
According to sources, the number of dengue cases reported in the district are 94, including 35 in Chitradurga taluk, 13 in Challakere, 18 in Hosadurga, 12 in Holalkere, five in Molkalmuru and five in Hiriyur taluk.
The number of chikungunya cases reported in the district are 42. Of these, 31 cases are reported in Chitradurga taluk, one in Challakere, two in Hosadurga, five in Molkalmuru and three in Hiriyur.

There are no cases of chikungunya so far in Holalkere taluk.
Residents in BG Kere, Kondlahalli, Konesagar, Mogalhalli and surrounding areas of Molkalmuru taluks of the district are suffering from symptoms of dengue and chikungunya.
So the officers of the Health Department have started conducting a survey and creating awareness among the people on the steps that should be taken to avoid spread of dengue and chikungunya, the sources added.

The officers concerned have instructed residents in these areas to maintain cleanliness in and around their houses and avoid throwing of waste material. The affected people have also been urged to opt for blood and urine tests immediately to understand the actual reason for their illness, the sources said.
