Dalits demand Cong. leader’s arrest

May 17, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - RAICHUR:

The Madiga Reservation Horata Samithi (MRHS) has demanded that the district administration banish Murali Yadav, a Congress leader and one of the accused in the attack on three Dalit youths in the district last week. The attack had triggered a clash in the city, compelling the police to resort to lathicharge and burst tear gas shells, apart from imposing prohibitory orders in Timmapurpet and Harijanwada localities.

Addressing a press conference at Reporters’ Guild here on Monday, Ambanna Aroli, the State secretary of the organisation, accused the district police of “going soft” in the case.

“Murali Yadav, with a group of over 25 people, attacked Ravikumar, Venkanna and Timmayya, Dalit youths from Harijanwada. The police should immediately book them and take measures to banish them from the district,” he said.

Mr. Aroli questioned the sincerity of the police, who have failed to arrest Murali Yadav and his associates, who are absconding.

“I appreciate the police for swiftly swinging into action and taking control of the situation on Friday evening. However, the police are not showing any interest in arresting Murali Yadav and his associates. They know that the accused are hiding in Bengaluru, but they are not arresting them,” he alleged.
