Daily wagers to launch indefinite strike

The Karnataka State Government Daily Wage Employees Federation has set June 30 as the deadline for the State government to meet all of its demands, failing which it would launch an indefinite strike.

In a press release issued here, president of the federation K.S. Sharma has said that the executive committee of the federation had taken the decision to launch the strike in Bengaluru from July 13 during the Legislature session. The decision was taken at the executive committee meeting held at Vishwashrama Chetana in Hubballi on Saturday, he has said.

The meeting was attended by district leaders and addressed by the president of the All Karnataka Primary School Teachers Association B.F. Vijapur and others.

Daily Wage Employees Federation has been demanding cent per cent DA and HRA to eligible daily wage employees, granting of the new pension scheme, compassionate appointment to the dependents of the employees who die while in service apart from pressing for other demands.

Another demand of the federation is that daily wage employees with 10 years of service should be considered for terminal benefits. It has also demanded abolition of the contract system and regularising the services of contract employees working in the departments of irrigation, forest, social welfare, health and registration.
