Karnataka Law Commission chairman S.R. Nayak has said that the number of cyber crime cases registered in the country is likely to reach three lakh this year, leading to serious repercussions in the financial sector, security establishment and the social structure .
Inaugurating a seminar on ‘Information technology and cyber crime laws: prospects and challenges’ here on Friday, he said as per the findings of a study, the number of such cases had reached 1.49 lakh and it was likely to cross the three-lakh mark by the year-end. Every month, 12,456 cases were being registered. Most of the offenders were in the 18-30 age group, he said.
Also, India ranked third after Japan and U.S.A. in the list of countries most affected by online banking malware. The number of cyber crime victims in India was 46 million against the global average of 560 million. Last year, 48,174 Indian websites were hacked and it was likely to touch 85,000 by 2015, he said quoting a report.
