Cricket betting racket busted, five arrested

The Mandya subdivision police on Saturday night busted a cricket betting racket by arresting five persons from a residence at the Labour Colony here.

The police recovered 13 mobile phones, one laptop and Rs. 2.04 lakh in cash from the arrested. The police gave the names of the arrested as R. Venugopala Gowda (38), resident of IV cross in Labour Colony; S. Manju Gowda, alias Abbas (35) from Chikkamandya; T. Sunil Thimmadase Gowda, New Post Office Road, Guthalu; M. Raju (39), Chikkamandya, and S. Shivakumar (32) from V.V. Pura Guthalu Colony here. The arrested were allegedly engaged in betting over the Kolkata Knight Riders versus Kings XI Punjab IPL match that was played on Saturday last, the police said.
