Workshops are being held in Karnataka to strengthen the implementation of the biodiversity Act with focus on its access and benefit-sharing provisions, M.D. Subhaschandran, member, Karnataka Biodiversity Board, has said.
He was speaking at a workshop here on Wednesday.

Dr. Subhaschandran said that the National Biodiversity Authority had brought out a notification on access and benefit-sharing provisions on November 21, 2014.
The main objectives of the board were to create awareness on the Act with focus on its provisions to protect traditional knowledge; realise the benefits of traditional knowledge on biological resources; document traditional knowledge to provide legal protection to it; and ensure that the documented knowledge was given legal status and it was with the government.
The board would help get exclusive rights to those who hold traditional knowledge and channel its benefits in the event of its commercialisation.
