The city court complex will soon get a new wing on a 5.5-acre plot near Jayanagar. The first phase of the project is likely to be completed in a year.
This was revealed by Principal District and Sessions judge H.P. Sandesh at a function to inaugurate new facilities at the city court complex on Saturday. Karnataka High Court judge N.K. Patil inaugurated the facilities, which included a new security room, power generator and separate toilets for persons with disabilities.
The security room has been proposed in view of the recent blasts outside the Delhi High Court, following which the Karnataka High Court instructed that security be tightened at all court complexes.

Referring to the existing court complex, Mr. Sandesh said it was congested. Thirty court halls were functioning in it under severe space constrains. Hence, a 5.5-acre plot had been identified near Jayanagar, to which 15 court halls would be shifted, he said. “The complex will be a four-storeyed structure and will be completed in a phase-wise manner. The first phase will be completed in a year,” he said.
Mediation centres and the legal cells would be shifted to the new wing. This step would reduce congestion in the city court complex considerably. The project would cost around Rs. 60 crore, Mr. Sandesh said.
Landscaping of the city court complex would also be taken up, for which assistance of the Mysore City Corporation and the Mysore Urban Development Authority would be sought, he said.

The newly inaugurated security room is equipped with sensors, scanners and detectors. Four armed personnel would provide round-the-clock security, while metal detectors have been installed at all entry and exit points on the court premises.
The city court complex also got a new 135 kV generator to ensure the court proceedings were not hindered due to frequent power failure.
