All the 11 candidates from the Congress, the BJP and the JD(S) who filed their nomination papers for the biennial election to the Legislative Council from the Legislative Assembly on Thursday are set to be elected unopposed.
The elections to 11 seats of the Council were to be held on June 11.
However, with only those candidates who were officially announced by the parties filing nomination papers on Thursday, the last day for nominations, all of them are set to be elected unopposed. An official announcement of their election is likely to be made on Friday, after the scrutiny of nomination papers.

The BJP renominated Raghunathrao Malkapure and fielded former MP and party spokesperson Tejaswini Gowda; Rudre Gowda, who made way for K.S. Eshwarappa by giving up his claim for ticket to contest the Assembly election from Shivamogga; K.P. Nanjundi, a prominent leader of Vishwakarma community who recently joined the party; and N. Ravi Kumar, party general secretary.
While the Congress renominated C.M. Ibrahim and K. Govindraj and fielded Arvind Kumar Arali, and K. Harish Kumar, the JD(S) chose B.M. Farook and Dharme Gowda.
While the BJP candidates were accompanied by their party State president B.S. Yeddyurappa while filing their papers, Congress candidates were accompanied by the former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara. JD(S) candidates were accompanied by party leader H.D. Revanna.

The elections were necessitated as the term of 11 members will expire on June 17.
The members who will retire are B.J. Puttaswamy (BJP), M.R. Seetharam (Congress), Motamma (Congress), D.S. Veeraiah (BJP), Syed Mudeer Aga (JD-S), Somanna M. Bevinamarad (BJP), Mr. Malkapure, Bhanu Prakash (BJP), Mr. Ibrahim, Mr. Govindaraj, and B.S. Suresh (Independent).
