Convicts attack Gulbarga jail superintendent

Gulbarga Central Prison Superintendent Mr Krishnakumar who was attacked by a group of convicts inside the prison is being taken to the Government General Hospital with head injuries in Gulbarga City on Saturday. - already given

In a daring incident, three convicts attacked the superintendent of the Gulbarga Central Prison Krishnakumar and injured him on Saturday. Mr. Krishnakumar, who suffered head injuries, has been admitted to the Government General Hospital.

The convicts were later overpowered by the prison staff and sent to the barracks.

The convicts were identified as Manjunath from Shimoga, Mastan Ali from Andhra Pradesh, and Mohammad Gayazuddin from Chincholi.Of the three, two were convicted of murder and the other for his involvement in the bomb blast at a church at Wadi in Chitapur taluk of Gulbarga district, a few years ago.

Sources said a few other convicts also joined the trio in the attack on the jail superintendent. The reason for the attack on the prison official was stated to be the strict measures initiated to bring discipline inside the jail and raids on the barracks.

Unconfirmed reports said that during the raids, a mobile phone was recovered from one of the three convicts involved in the attack. An inquiry was ordered as to how the cellphone came into the possession of the convict.
