Construct compound walls for all schools, officials told

Stating that 240 government schools in the district lack compound walls, Rohini Sindhuri, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mandya Zilla Panchayat urged the officials concerned to initiate measures to construct compound walls for such schools by utilising the grants available under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

She was addressing the officials and elected representatives at a review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme here on Tuesday.

Utilise the grants available at taluk panchayat and zilla panchayat levels under the employment guarantee scheme and construct compound walls so that students felt safe on the premises, she said. President of the zilla panchayat Manjula Paramesh, who chaired the meeting, urged the doctors to serve the poor with dedication.

The doctors at taluk hospitals should treat patients well and serve the society.

The authorities concerned should provide proper water and other basic infrastructures to government hospitals at the taluk centres, she said.

Mr. Paramesh directed the zilla panchahyat officials to identify the land for constructing a warehouse for foodgrains.

Ms. Sindhuri and Mr. Paramesh also reviewed the progress of projects taken up by various departments. Standing committee president K.S. Vijayananda and others were present.
