Congress’ Raghu Achar wins in Chitradurga

Congress candidate Raghu Achar won the Legislative Council elections from the Chitradurga local bodies constituency.

Of the 5,328 votes, Mr. Achar secured 2,651 first preferential votes. As many as 214 votes were considered as invalid votes owing to various reasons.

JDS candidate L. Somanna secured 11 votes, independent candidates C.S. Naveen secured six votes, S. Prakash Murthy secured four votes and L. Basappa secured 13 votes.

Since, the Deputy Commissioner and district election officer Srirangaiah denied permission for supporters to enter the counting centre, they staged dharna outside the centre and raised slogans against Mr. Srirangiah. However, the police personnel managed to convince them and cover the event peacefully.
