Computer education in Kannada suggested for youth in State

It will improve employability of rural people: Siddalingaiah

Chairman of the Kannada Book Authority (KBA) Siddalingaiah has stressed on the need to impart computer education in Kannada so that students in rural areas of the State can get employment.

Mr. Siddalingaiah was speaking after inaugurating a programme here on Saturday. It was organised to give away certificates to students who were trained in computers in Kannada at the Kannada Computer Free Training Centre (KCFTC). He urged the Government to launch a programme under which computer education could be imparted in Kannada to the young across the State.

Mr. Siddalingaiah said that by imparting Kannada computer education to the youth, the Government could successfully implement the Dr. Sarojini Mahishi Committee report, which recommended employment for Kannadigas in central government services and public sector units.

Mr. Siddalingaiah said over 7,000 of the 12,000 students trained at the KCFTC were employed in various central government and public sector units and the Government should replicate the training programme in rural parts as it will improve employment opportunities. It is important to impart computer skills in Kannada to all sections of society, especially the backward classes and women so that a level-playing field is created for them to to compete with their urban counterpart.

Founder of the KCFTC R.A. Prasad said they had imparted computer education in Kannada for over 12,000 students in a decade.
